Family Literacy Month - Let's PLAY!

28 December 2010

Family Literacy Month takes place every January to celebrate adults and children reading and learning together, and to encourage Canadians to spend at least 15 minutes enjoying a learning activity as a family every day. This year’s theme is Play for Literacy. Why play? Playing games that encourage literacy and numeracy, such as board games, card games and word games, is a great way for parents and children to  practice their literacy skills and have fun. So each day this January, grab your family and playat home, at the Library, anywhere!

For some great activity ideas, check out our Family Literacy Month events calendar and links to fun online family activities!

We will be celebrating Family Literacy Month here in the Library on January 27th. Join us for activities here in the Library and check out the release of new Interactive Totes!

Did You Know? Children raised in literate households are likely to enter grade one with several thousand hours of one-to-one pre-reading experience behind them!
